Basketball fans were in for a treat when the G League Elite squad hosted Metropolitans 92 in Henderson, Nevada for a preseason game. Normally, international teams coming stateside won’t draw a ton of attention, but this game was a hot ticket because of who is on 92. Victor Wembanyama is on the 92 roster and is believed by many to be the top prospect in the 2023 NBA Draft class.
The Elite have some excellent players as well, headlined by Scoot Henderson, who is also a top prospect.
Wembanyama is aware of the hype around him and is not lacking in confidence. “If I was never born, I think he would deserve the first spot,” Wembanyama said when referencing Henderson ahead of their teams playing a two-game series. The first of that series certainly lived up to expectations.
Wembanyama, who stands 7’4”, brings new meaning to the word Unicorn when it comes to basketball players. He will need to add strength and weight to his frame, but there is no denying the skill that he possesses.

In the first game between the top prospects, Wembanyama scored 37 points, showing off his wide array of offensive moves. He is as comfortable around the basket as he is on the perimeter as he knocked down 7-of-11 3-point attempts. He also grabbed four rebounds to go along with one steal and five blocks.
Ultimately, it was Henderson’s Elite team that came away with the win, 122-115. He was sure to not let Wembanyama get all the attention, as he had a monster game of his own.
In 31 minutes, Henderson scored 28 points on 11-of-21 from the field, including 2-of-3 from 3-point range. He rounded out his stat line with five rebounds, nine assists and two steals. Henderson has great size for a point guard standing 6’3” and already has what looks like an NBA body.
There is going to be some intense tanking throughout the 2022-23 season as teams will do whatever is within their power to get in a position to select one of Wembanyama and Henderson. Both look to be can’t miss prospects and will provide a franchise with what looks to be a future star in the NBA.
