NBA GM Survey Heavily Favors Luka Doncic To Win MVP

The NBA is in good hands when it comes to superstars carrying the league. There are a lot of great, young players currently playing and what the league loves most is that they represent so many different backgrounds.

Several international players are among the best in the league, as they are representing their countries and helping the NBA grow the game. In fact, the MVP award has gone to an international player in the last four seasons.

Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks, who hails from Greece, won the MVP award in 2019 and 2020. For the last two years, the winner has been Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets, who hails from Serbia. General managers around the league believe the streak of international players winning the MVP award will continue this season.

In this year’s NBA APP GM Survey, Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks was the runaway favorite to win the MVP award for the 2022-23 season. Doncic received 48 percent of the votes, easily topping the 37 percent that last season’s selection, Kevin Durant of the Brooklyn Nets, received.

Doncic has finished in the top-six for the MVP award the last three seasons and general managers around the league expect him to break through this season for his first one. Second, on the list, this year is Antetokounmpo, who received 34 percent of the vote as many people believe this is going to be a two-horse race.

Coming in third was Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers. Embiid has finished as the runner-up for the MVP in two consecutive seasons to Jokic. There were a lot of people that felt he should have won the award last season as he led the league with 30.6 points per game to go along with 11.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.4 blocks.

Rounding out the list was Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors. The 2015 and 2016 NBA MVP received three percent of the vote this year following his first Bill Russell NBA Finals MVP award of his career.
