In this NBA trade scenario, the Brooklyn Nets would receive Gordon Hayward from the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for Joe Harris and Royce O’Neale.

The Hornets are set to pay Hayward $30.1M this season and $31.5 million in 2023-24 if they don’t move him in a trade. They are also set to pay $96.3 million to Terry Rozier over the next four seasons. Moving on from some future salary will be important.

Harris is set to earn $18.6 million this season and is also signed through the 2023-24 league year. He will earn $19.9 million during the final year of his deal, which is substantially less than Hayward.

O’Neale will be playing on an expiring contract, which could afford the Hornets some salary cap relief next offseason if they feel the need to use it for other priorities.
