Nobody likes to make a mistake. Yet, we all make them. That’s an integral part of the human experience. What counts is how we respond to the mistakes we make. The same goes for NBA teams.

Unfortunately, the stakes for them are higher than your average person. An NBA team can make a mistake that sets a massive organization back for a decade or more. 

It’s too early to say the Dallas Mavericks made a mistake in acquiring Christian Wood. At the same time, there have already been red flags.

Wood doesn’t seem content to have been designated as a sixth man already. Moreover, reports from the team’s training camp suggest that his body language has left something to be desired. 

On the other hand, it’s fair to say the Lakers erred in acquiring Russell Westbrook last season. A 34-win season in 2021-22 is all the data we need to reach that conclusion.

Realistically, moving him as soon as possible could only benefit the organization. 

If the Mavericks come to view their acquisition of Wood as a mistake, perhaps they could be a landing spot for the former MVP.
