Every NBA player develops at his own pace. With that said, it doesn’t always feel that way. 

Often, we assume that development will follow a linear trajectory. A player starts out at a certain level, and then gradually improves until he peaks – and then starts to decline. That may often be the case, but nobody should assume that it will be. 

For example, look at DeMar DeRozan. Somehow, at 33, he’s still improving. It feels like DeRozan adds something to his game every summer. Last season, that worked paid off – many would suggest that it was the best of his career. 

On the other hand, Kristaps Porzingis hasn’t made much progress since his sophomore year. Realistically, his stagnation owes to injury problems as much as anything.

Still, at 27, don’t rule out possible improvement from the Latvian big man.
