With training camp upon us in the NBA, there are already some teams making moves to their rosters. Teams are evaluating the players that they currently have ahead of the regular season and see if there are changes that need to be made.

One team that people are keeping a close eye on is the Dallas Mavericks. Dallas should be in the market for a deal as they have some areas on their roster that could use an upgrade. Jalen Brunson’s departure opened a gaping hole in the backcourt rotation and it wouldn’t hurt to add some depth to the wings.

One player that could fit their need for a wing is Jae Crowder of the Phoenix Suns. Crowder is not at training camp with the Suns and was an excused absence as the team is looking to make a trade centered around him. With a diminished role expected, Crowder requested to be traded and both sides agreed he should remain away from the team until one is found.

The Mavericks were one of the teams mentioned as a potential landing spot for the veteran forward. He began his career in Dallas, spending the first two and a half seasons of his career there, appearing in 181 games before he was traded to the Boston Celtics.

A reunion would have made some sense as the Mavericks are thin on two-way wings with Dorian Finney-Smith and Reggie Bullock being the only ones currently on the roster. Alas, it doesn’t sound like a move for Crowder will be made by Dallas.

According to John Gambadoro, a sports talk radio host for 98.7 FM Phoenix, the Mavericks can be taken out of the discussion when it comes to Crowder. He shared that from what he is hearing, they are not interested in trading for him.

That is a little surprising as the Mavericks could certainly afford to bolster their wing rotation. However, upgrading the backcourt is likely their No. 1 priority and they will look to do that before anything else.
