Why The Toronto Raptors Do The Deal 

If the Raptors did do this deal, they’d be doing it for one of two reasons: either they’re ready to move on from Anunoby, or Anunoby is ready to move on from them. 

After all, rumors swirled around Anunoby’s name this summer. There were suggestions that, with Barnes’ emergence, he’d grown tired of his role in Toronto. Some have said that Anunoby would welcome more ball-handling responsibilities. 

Of course, you should take those rumors with a grain of salt. Anunoby has issued no formal trade request. At the same time, for the right price, the Raptors could be incentivized to move him – whether he wants to go or not. 

For example, this would be a hefty return. The Raptors are getting a lot of draft capital here.

We’ve got them landing two first-round picks for Anunoby, and then an additional pick swap for taking on Robinson’s burdensome contract. This deal would make them worse in 2022-23, but it could make them better down the road.
