Why The Memphis Grizzlies Do The Deal
In some respects, Love makes an interesting replacement for Jackson Jr. He more than makes up for some of what the Grizzlies will miss from him, but doesn’t come close in other respects.
If you’re looking for a combo big who spaces the floor, Love is your man. In fact, he’s a far more reliable floor spacer than Jackson Jr. On the other hand, he’s a somewhat weak defender – by contrast, Jackson Jr. is elite in that area.
Luckily, the Grizzlies don’t need a permanent replacement for Jackson Jr. In time, he will be back. With that in mind, any player they add in his absence ought to be able to fit alongside him.
That won’t be an issue for Love. In all likelihood, he’ll resume the sixth-man role he played in Cleveland last summer.
