Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal 

Of course, if you don’t generally attract star free agents, you have two more streams available through which you can acquire talent: trading, and the draft. 

As it stands, the Knicks are poised to find talent through either. They’ve got one of the most impressive collections of draft capital in the NBA. It’s possible that the Knicks could use one of those picks to select a star-caliber talent. 

Yet, that doesn’t seem to be the plan in New York. After all, the Knicks already tried to trade for Donovan Mitchell this summer. In all likelihood, they’ll eventually make a trade for a star work. 

This deal gets them closer to doing so. The first-round pick they’re landing from the Lakers here is especially valuable.

The next time a star player hits the market, look for the Knicks to offer it, along with other assets, in exchange for him.
