In some ways, New York and Los Angeles have long been embedded in a cultural war for America’s soul. There is some truth to that with the NBA.
In the 90s, that war manifested itself in music. If you weren’t there, you couldn’t understand. On the other hand, if you were, you know. Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G were at the center of an infamous rap beef. Unfortunately, the consequences of that beef were far too dire.
Fortunately, nothing so dramatic will happen in the National Basketball Association. In fact, it would be hard to say there’s been a war between New York and Los Angeles – if there is, the Knicks might want to wave the white flag.
After all, they haven’t been in the NBA Finals since the 90s. Meanwhile, both of LA’s teams have had tremendous recent success.

With that said, the Lakers’ situation isn’t necessarily enviable at the moment either. Following a brutal 2021-22 season, they need to make significant changes.
