Why The Detroit Pistons Do The Deal
We’re not suggesting the Pistons rush to do this deal tomorrow. They may be making short-term plans, but they’ll still need to have more foresight than that.
On the other hand, if they look better than expected this season, it may be time to shift into win-now mode. In that event, Turner could be a perfect addition to this squad.
After all, the Pistons will feature two dynamic on-ball playmakers in their backcourt this season. Granted, Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey operate differently.
Cunningham is more inclined to probe the defense and patiently wait for an opportunity, whereas Ivey attacks quickly and relentlessly. Still, they’d both benefit from the space afforded by a stretch 5 like Turner.

If there’s any opposition to be had here, it may relate to Jalen Duren. After all, the Pistons just traded for him in the 2022 NBA draft. Turner could potentially step on his toes. On the other hand, he won’t step on them as hard as Isaiah Stewart.
Since Turner can shoot, there’s at least some theoretical room for him to share the floor with Duren, whereas a Stewart/Duren formation is entirely unsustainable: In the short term, and the long term as well.
