Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is entering his 20th season in the NBA. Father Time is undefeated and James is beginning to show some wear and tear based on the nagging injuries that he has battled in recent seasons, but when he is on the court, he is holding off Father Time admirably.

Last season James averaged 30.3 points per game, which is the second highest mark in his career. The only time he scored more was during the 2005-06 season when he averaged 31.4 points per game. Last season was the third time in his career he reached the 30-points per game plateau, as during the 2007-08 campaign, he led the league with 30 points per game.

That kind of longevity and production has led to James accomplishing some incredible individual feats. He is re-writing the record books, reaching milestones that no other player has ever. James was the third player in NBA history to score at least 35,000 points and was the youngest and second fastest to 30,000 in 2018.

While 38 players have scored 10,000 points and grabbed 10,000 rebounds, James is the only player to record 10,000 assists as well. The next closest to that feat is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with 5,660.

Abdul-Jabbar is also the all-time leading scorer in NBA history with 38,387, another milestone that James is approaching. He is only 1,325 points behind Abdul-Jabbar, meaning he could take that record down around midseason.

During the Lakers’ Media Day, James discussed the scoring record that is going to be within reach. If he maintains his career average, he will reach it at some point this season as long as he can remain healthy.

Having the people closest to him present as the most important thing for him is not surprising. James has made it clear that he wants to finish his career playing alongside his oldest son, Bronny, in the NBA.
