Why The Indiana Pacers Do The Deal
The Pacers have a few good reasons to do this deal.
Let’s start with what they’re sending out. The writing appears to be on the wall for Turner’s tenure in Indiana. Allegedly, he’s feeling alienated from the organization after they offered Deandre Ayton a max rookie extension in free agency. This deal could take care of some locker room tension for the Pacers.
Secondly, and once more for the people in the back: the Pacers don’t tank. If that holds true, Wiggins is exactly the type of 3-and-D wing with secondary shot creating that could make them better next season. Moreover, at 27, he’s still young enough for what would become something of a retooling process.
Yes, the Pacers would miss Turner if they’re trying to win games. At the same time, they’ve got a pair of intriguing young big men in Isaiah Jackson and Jalen Smith.

It’s entirely possible that, with the addition of Wiggins to a group featuring Tyrese Haliburton and Buddy Hield, the Pacers could be surprisingly good next season.
