Why The Cleveland Cavaliers Do The Deal
Moving on from Kevin Love won’t be easy for the Cavaliers.
After all, Love is the last vestige from that same 2016 title run. He’s a leader in this Cavaliers’ locker room. Of course, that isn’t the only reason they’d have to pause for thought before making this deal.
Love also remains a quality NBA player. Last year, he found himself in the running for the Sixth Man of the Year award. Parting with him may sting, but if this deal is on the table, it’s probably the right decision for the Cavaliers.
This team badly needs wing depth. In all likelihood, Richardson would slot in as this team’s starting small forward with his combination of solid shooting, defense, and playmaking.

Meanwhile, McDermott makes up at least the front-court floor spacing they’re losing in Love. He’s not the same caliber of rebounder or passer, but he does replicate Love’s most vital function on this squad.
Are the Spurs getting enough back for so many quality rotation players?
