Why The Boston Celtics Do The Deal
We mentioned that Turner should be able to co-exist with Williams III. Let’s elaborate on that.
Williams III has developed into one of the most impactful defensive players in the league. At 6’8, he’s on the smaller side for a big man. However, his combination of strength and verticality more than compensate for his height. Yet, Williams is no conventional rim protector – his quick feet and lateral mobility allow him to switch across positions.
On the other hand, Turner isn’t necessarily the most switchable big in the league. He is, with that said, one of the best rim protectors in the NBA. Furthermore, Turner is a strong floor-spacing big, an area Williams III is lacking in.
In other words, there is a complementary set of strengths and weaknesses here. Turner will replace Williams until he comes back, and then he’ll compliment him.

If everything clicks, the result could be an NBA championship – something irreplaceable, indeed.
