Have you ever said or done something you couldn’t take back? Some of these same principles apply to NBA teams.

Consider that a rhetorical question – we all have. Perhaps you were fighting with a partner. We’ve all been there. You didn’t mean to say what you did, but it spilled out of your mouth, and now it’s just hanging there.

Once a team makes it clear that they’d consider moving on from a player, the relationship is compromised.

Trades are a part of life in the NBA, but so is human nature. Sometimes, a player gives a team that age-old statement: “you can’t fire me, I quit!”.

We wouldn’t blame Myles Turner of the Indiana Pacers for feeling that way. After all, the Pacers tendered a max rookie extension offer to Deandre Ayton this summer.

The Suns matched it, but now, Turner knows his team would willingly replace him.

Here’s a deal that sends him to the Hornets in case the relationship is ruined.

The Trade

Indiana Pacers receive: F Kelly Oubre, G James Bouknight, 2024 First-Round Pick (CHA)

Charlotte Hornets receive: C Myles Turner

On the subject of things you can’t take back – an NBA trade is permanent. Once it’s made, it’s made.

There are a couple of different ways a Turner-to-Indiana deal could look. In all actuality, we don’t think this is the deal the Pacers would prefer. On the other hand, it’s the deal we think they should make.

Those attuned to this franchise may know what we’re getting at. As a rule, the Pacers don’t bottom out. Instead, this small market team generally aims to put the best product they can on the floor in any given season.

When most teams rebuild, they scrap their whole roster in exchange for first-round picks and start over. Not the Pacers. They tend to target young players who have already proven something in the league.

With that in mind, they may prefer to land P.J. Washington and forego the first-round pick in a Turner exchange.

They should go this way instead.
