Why The Utah Jazz Do The Deal
We already alluded to the imperfections in Conley’s game. Let’s take a moment to elaborate: They’re all on the defensive end.
Mike Conley is 34, and he’s small. In his prime, he managed to be a solid perimeter defender in spite of his slight frame. Conley is a heady player with a great understanding of positioning. Larger, more athletic guards could always get the jump on him, but on average, he wasn’t a defensive liability.
Unfortunately, his prime is over. As such, the Jazz aren’t going to get a first-round pick for Conley this off-season. They could hang onto him – perhaps at the deadline, contenders get desperate. It’s possible that the Jazz will be in a position to up their asking price.
On the other hand, there would be a benefit in moving Conley now, and clearing the lane for the Jazz’s youngsters to get more usage.

Meanwhile, Kispert has some potential. His rookie year was a little underwhelming, but he was seen as one of the best shooters in his 2021 draft class. Sometimes, you can lower your asking price, and still gain a lot in the process.
