If the Jazz were willing to accept that they wouldn’t land a first-round pick for Bogdanovic, they’ll surely have the same revelation about Mike Conley soon.
His value, after all, is widely regarded as lower. That makes sense. Bogdanovic is no defensive ace, but Conley has aged into an outright liability on that end of the floor. His diminutive size, coupled with his old age, means that he struggles to guard opposing players on a nightly basis.
With that in mind, this deal makes sense for Utah. In Green, they’re landing a young player with some upside. Green defends with gusto. He’s a great athlete with a limitless motor.
As of now, his inconsistent three-pointer is holding back his potential, but if it starts to land, he could be a quality player in this league.Â

As for the Dallas Mavericks: they’ll live with Conley’s defensive deficiencies. They’re too desperate to land a secondary playmaker behind Luka Doncic to get fussy. Moreover, the fact that Conley is an elite floor-spacer helps as well. He’ll provide plenty of off-ball gravity for Doncic to work with.Â
If they can land him without giving up a first-round pick, they shouldn’t hesitate.Â
