Trade Rudy Gobert To Boston Celtics
Utah Jazz Receive: F Danilo Gallinari, 2023 Second-Round Pick (ORL via BOS)
Boston Celtics Receive: F/C Rudy Gay
When we talk about the Jazz’s veterans, Rudy Gay tends to be a forgotten man. That shouldn’t come as a shock: at 36, it’s safe to say that he’s the least impactful of the bunch.
That doesn’t mean he’s got no value.
In fact, the Boston Celtics could really use a veteran like Gay. They just signed Danilo Gallinari. Unfortunately, the veteran tore his ACL this summer, and it’s unlikely that he’ll suit up for the Shamrocks at all this season. With that in mind, Gay could be a near-perfect replacement.
Granted, he’s not quite as reliable a floor-spacer as Gallinari. On the other hand, he’s a much better defender. Meanwhile, from Utah’s point of view, he’s entirely expendable. Moreover, he’s on almost the exact same contract as Gallinari, in terms of price and duration.

The Jazz must know they won’t get a first-round pick for Gay. He’s simply too old to command that type of value. Flipping him for a second-rounder would be a smart decision for the Jazz before 2022-23 gets underway.
