Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal
There is an irony here. The Nets don’t currently have an ideal roster to work with Simmons. This deal has them landing some – at the expense of Simmons.
After all, Turner is exactly the type of floor spacing big that should maximize Simmons. Moreover, Hield is the type of elite floor spacer that maximizes anyone- especially a player like Simmons.
Here’s the catch – these players still make the Nets better. As constructed, the Nets have some headache-inducing problems to solve. How will Simmons co-exist with non-shooting bigs like Nic Claxton? What is he going to do when Irving has the ball? It’s not as simple as saying he’ll be the roll man – where does that leave Claxton?
By contrast, Turner and Hield would make life simpler for the Nets. They’re both complimentary pieces that would allow the Nets to construct a simpler offense around Durant and Irving. Realistically, that ought to be a recipe for a contending team in its own right.

On the other hand, following this deal, the Pacers won’t be contending for a long time. Is this enough in return for their two veterans?
