Why The Dallas Mavericks Do The Deal
Frankly, we really like Simmons for Dallas. There are at least a couple of reasons why this could work.
Firstly, the Mavericks acquired Christian Wood this summer. He’s precisely the type of big who, at least offensively, compliments Simmons. His ability to space the floor will maximize Simmons’ driving and passing lanes – Wood is one of the best floor-spacing bigs in the NBA.
On the other hand, he’s one of the weaker defenders at the position. For that matter, Doncic doesn’t excel on that end of the floor either. Luckily, as mentioned, Simmons certainly does.
As constructed, the Mavericks are expected to start JaVale McGee at the 5 and have Wood function as a sixth man. That makes sense. On the other hand, bringing Simmons in and starting Wood makes for a much more dynamic offensive lineup.

Moreover, Simmons should be a more impactful defensive anchor than McGee. Finally, with Wood spacing the floor, Simmons would be free to occupy the dunker spot when Doncic has the ball. In short, the pieces just fit here.
Can we say the same for the Nets following this deal?
