Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal
In all likelihood, this deal involves a higher risk, higher reward calculus for the Knicks. If Davis continues to fluctuate in and out of the injury report, this could be a bad decision on their end. On the other hand, if he gets his body right, the Knicks could be getting something invaluable here:
The best player in the deal, by far.
After all, a healthy Davis is a top-10 player who’s closer to creeping into the top-5 than falling out of position. It wasn’t long ago that he was widely regarded as one of the best two-way big men in the NBA.
Moreover, the Knicks could deploy him in a number of ways. He could be their new starting big man. Alternatively, he could slot into the 4 spot alongside Mitch Robinson, giving the Knicks a jumbo-sized frontcourt that would be exceedingly difficult to score on.
