Why The Denver Nuggets Do The Deal
When the Nuggets acquired Aaron Gordon, the logic made sense. Nikola Jokic is a prodigious offensive talent, but he struggles on defense. Gordon’s multi-positional ability on that end of the floor would hope.
Fair. On the other hand, things change. For starters, Jokic has improved on defense – where he was once an outright liability, he can at least survive in drop coverage.
With that in mind, pairing him with an elite point-of-attack defending wing like Crowder may be more crucial than having a versatile one like Gordon next to him.
Moreover, Gordon isn’t a strong floor-spacer. He is a sharper cutter and more of a lob threat than Crowder, but Jokic would likely benefit from having another shooter to kick the ball to out of double teams on the low block.

Regarding floor spacing: Robinson is mostly here to make the money work. He is a problematic defensive player. On the other hand, perhaps the Nuggets could use him for his shooting, but either way, this is effectively Gordon-for-Crowder from the Nuggets’ perspective.
