San Antonio Spurs Receive: G Jordan Poole 

Of course, nobody needs to lecture the San Antonio Spurs about the salary cap. For a long time, they found themselves pressed up against it. 

After all, today’s Spurs are not a great representative of the franchise’s history. From the late 90s through to the mid-10s, the Spurs were one of the most consistently successful franchises in the league. Of course, there’s no success without talent – and there’s no talent without big contracts. 

The Spurs found workarounds. For example, Tim Duncan took a pay cut for the betterment of the team.

For that matter, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili could have probably made more throughout their careers as well. The Spurs, like the Warriors, were a homegrown success story. It always felt like the players on their team put them first.

We can’t expect every NBA player to be cut from that cloth, either. Some players are going to take the money – and who could blame them?

Unfortunately, the Warriors’ Draymond Green is already on record saying he wants a max contract. Meanwhile, we’re not sure where Wiggins or Poole stands, but they are both human beings – odds are, they’d like to get as much as they can. 

Assuming that is the case, something is going to have to give. Should the Spurs really take advantage of the Warriors’ situation?
