It feels as if the gap between contending and rebuilding teams is always widening. Before, teams were more content to land in the middle. These days, teams that find themselves there tend to make big trades in an effort to bottom out.
Typically, those trades have them landing a cache of first-round picks in the process. The idea is simple – if you’re not contending, you might as well rebuild.
Apparently, it’s a concept that’s lost on the Washington Wizards. They’ve been plugging along for years, somewhere between a lower and middle-class franchise.
