Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal 

Well, at least we already know the Knicks had an interest in a starry young off-guard this summer. 

In case you somehow missed it, the Knicks lost the Donovan Mitchell sweepstakes. He’ll be a Cleveland Cavalier. On the other hand, perhaps the Cavs saved the Knicks from themselves. They’d have been forking over a lot of draft capital only to land Mitchell and still not contend. 

By contrast, they’ll have to surrender considerably less to land Poole. Granted, he won’t come cheap – we just told you he flashed All-Star potential last season. Still, two first-round picks and a swap is certainly a lower price than the Cavaliers ended up paying for Mitchell. 

Landing Poole will not launch the Knicks into contention. Realistically, they’re far from that goal. Still, he could be their best player next year if he takes another step forward, and having added Jalen Brunson already this summer, the Knicks should be a playoff team following this deal.
