Why The Washington Wizards Do The Deal
The Wizards do this deal to land Beal a co-star. Realistically, this one isn’t complicated for them.
It just so happens that Siakam is the perfect co-star for him. Beal is an elite scorer, but his playmaking for others leaves a little to be desired. By contrast, Siakam took a significant step forward in that department in 2021-22. By now, he’s one of the best playmaking forwards in the NBA.
Moreover, Siakam’s versatile defense will complement anyone. With Danel Gafford at the 5 and Deni Avdija at the 3, the Wizards will have plus defenders at every front-court position, and a new offensive star following this deal.
This is a risky deal for the Wizards. They’re parting with two first-round picks to acquire a player that doesn’t necessarily vault them into championship territory.

At the same time, he ought to give them the most competitive team they’ve had in the Beal era. Having just extended Beal, the Wizards might as well make win-now moves if they’re available to them.
With that in mind, few decisions could help them win now more than landing Beal a much-needed co-star.
