Why The Chicago Bulls Do The Deal
Other times, a player possesses some star skills, but it becomes a moot point. In those situations, usually, that player’s team isn’t in an ideal position to maximize those skills.
That’s how it felt watching Nikola Vucevic with the Chicago Bulls last season. Vucevic has made multiple All-Star appearances in his career, but he’s not likely to get a star’s touches alongside Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan. Vucevic was relegated to floor spacing duties too often, and with his three-point shooting efficiency dropping, he didn’t even fulfill them.
He doesn’t feel like the right fit for these Bulls. By contrast, Claxton could be. He’s not nearly as skilled as Vucevic, but he is a versatile defensive big who can guard bigs, wings, and guards.
Moreover, as a shooting specialist, Joe Harris fits on any roster. His elite off-ball gravity will make life easier for both LaVine and DeRozan. Granted, Harris can be a defensive liability, but with a healthy Patrick Williams and a newly acquired Claxton, the Bulls should be able to withstand his limitations.
