Why The Cleveland Cavaliers Do The Deal
Nobody wants to admit it, but there may be a dilemma in Cleveland. In time, this organization may have to choose between Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen.
Of course, they may not. Mobley projects as one of the most versatile defenders in the NBA – there shouldn’t be a problem on that end of the floor. On the other hand, offensively, he may be a 5.
Granted, Mobley has a decent shooting touch – for a big man. As the league shifts towards wings at the 4 spot, he’s likely to offer below-average positional spacing. On the other hand, he’s almost assured to shoot well enough to hold down the 5 spot.
If that’s true, there’s really no choice to make at all. Allen is a great big man, but Evan Mobley is the most important player to this organization.
If they’re barreling towards splitting this duo up, Andrew Wiggins would be a great return for Allen. He’s exactly the type of 3-and-D wing that’s currently missing from this roster, and his secondary shot creation abilities will prove useful as well.

Finally, adding Looney to make up for some of the loss of Allen doesn’t hurt. This deal may improve the Cavaliers in 2022-23, but even if it doesn’t, it gives them a more balanced core to work with moving forward. What does it do for the Warriors?
