Why The Chicago Bulls Do The Deal 

To be sure, this would be an unexpected development for the Bulls this off-season. That doesn’t mean it’s not the right decision. 

The Heat may have advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals last season, but the Bulls didn’t even come close. Should a 46-win season and first-round elimination really preclude the Bulls from retooling? 

Moreover, given DeRozan’s advanced age, they’re not likely to find two first-round picks and a swap for him from very many suitors. The Bulls would need a team with strict win-now principles in order to swing that deal. Luckily for them, the Heat fit that description.  

Punting on 2022-23 won’t be easy for the Bulls in light of the moves they’ve made to contend in recent years. With that said, they’re simply not serious contenders.

Moreover, Zach LaVine is 27, Lonzo Ball is 24, and Patrick Williams is only 21. There is enough quality youth on this roster to justify retooling. 

Is there enough veteran talent on the Heat to justify this move?
