New York Knicks Receive: G Russell Westbrook, 2027 First-Round Pick (LAL)
Los Angeles Lakers Receive: G Derrick Rose, G/F Evan Fournier, G/F Cam Reddish
Here, we’ve identified another deal the Los Angeles Lakers may be able to make without parting with both of their available first-round picks.
The trick is to have the Lakers absorb a potentially undesirable contract in the process. In this New York Knicks trade, it’s Evan Fournier’s. He’s on the hook for three more seasons, and at $18 million a year, it’s hard to imagine he’ll live up to his contract value.
He’d still make a good addition for the Lakers. Fournier is a solid floor-spacer who can create his own shots when his number is called. On the other hand, the best acquisition for the Lakers here is Rose. He’s developed into one of the most consistent three-point shooting point guards in the NBA.
Finally, Reddish is the wild card here. His NBA career has been a disappointment to date, but at 23, he’s still got the potential to have a breakout year. If he does so in the purple-and-gold, this deal will pay dividends.

On the other hand, the Lakers may want surer bets. They may have the means to acquire them, too – but it’ll cost them.
