Why The Dallas Mavericks Do The Deal
By contrast, the Mavericks do not need a big man. As a matter of fact, they’ve got a surplus of them.
Firstly, the Mavericks acquired Christian Wood from the Houston Rockets this summer. Wood is a dynamic offensive big who struggles on the defensive end. Luckily for Dallas, they’ve got his inverse in presumptive starter JaVale McGee.
Of course, we haven’t even mentioned Maxi Kleber yet. As a versatile defender who spaces the floor, he may be the most valuable of the three. Granted, both Wood and Kleber can play the 4, but Dallas will want to give them run at both positions. Powell may be the odd man out.
On the other hand, Oubre would have an opportunity to start from day one in Dallas. As a hyper-athletic wing, he’ll be a great pairing with Doncic’s floor vision in transition. In the half-court, Oubre’s floor spacing is inconsistent, but the Mavericks will have Tim Hardaway Jr. to sub in.

Like the Hornets, the Mavericks will be forming a platoon here. As two teams with franchise players, they could both use all the help they can get.
