Why The Chicago Bulls Do The Deal
Remember all those bells-and-whistles we mentioned that come with Vucevic’s game? The Bulls couldn’t find much use for them in 2021-22.
After all, this offense ran through Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan. With those two controlling the flow, Vucevic was mostly relegated to floor-spacing duties – and in the midst of a poor shooting year, that meant he provided the Bulls with very little.
As much as Vucevic should be a better fit for the Lakers, Turner should be a better fit for this roster. Keeping his offensive duties to spacing the floor shouldn’t be an issue, as that’s effectively the sum of his offensive game in the first place. Of course, it’s his defensive impact the Bulls are after here. Turner is one of the best rim protectors in basketball.
Finally, consider McConnell insurance for the oft-injured Lonzo Ball. He doesn’t replicate his floor spacing, but he does offer similar floor vision and defensive intensity. As long as Ball is healthy, McConnell will be a quality backup for him.
