Why The LA Clippers Do The Deal
In all likelihood, Clippers fans will be agnostic to this deal. Do it, don’t do it; who cares?
Fair enough. Realistically, the Clippers only need good health to be the prohibitive championship favorites next season. Still, we think they could benefit from a little tinkering.
After all, it’s hard to envision a place for Marcus Morris Sr. with this roster. The Clippers have two superior small-ball 5 options in Robert Covington and Nicolas Batum. For that matter, they’re both better options at the 4 as well.
Really, this deal boils down to a simple calculus for the Clippers. They might as well trade Morris Sr. while they have Covington and Batum. Meanwhile, Shamet is a high-energy reserve who’ll make an impact if his three-pointer is falling. If it isn’t, they’ll sit him – as they likely would Morris anyway.
