Why The Memphis Grizzlies Do The Deal
There’s an old saying in the National Basketball Association – the team that gets the best player in a deal wins that deal.
We don’t strictly subscribe to that logic. Sometimes, a team’s position necessitates moving the best player in a trade. With that said, we’d like to propose a modification of that old saying: the team that gets the best player in a deal cannot lose that deal.
DeMar DeRozan is the best player in this deal. Granted, he’s not a perfect complement to Grizzlies superstar Ja Morant. Neither is an elite floor-spacer, so they may struggle to provide off-ball value when their co-star is controlling the offense.
Alternatively, neither is such a poor shooter that the pairing is entirely untenable. Moreover, their combined shot-making and playmaking abilities should make for a lethal offensive attack.

All told, bringing Morant a co-star feels like a good decision for the Grizzlies: After all, they’re not nearly ready to go back to the drawing board yet.
