Why The Philadelphia 76ers Do The Deal 

The 76ers do this deal because they need to upgrade. They’re all-in on the pursuit of an NBA championship in 2022-23. 

With that in mind, they should spare no expense in their efforts to upgrade. In this deal, the only players they’d be parting with who are likely to crack their rotation next season are Thybulle and Korkmaz. Is Clarkson worth that price? 

Yes. Korkmaz is a good floor-spacer, but he’s also a mediocre defender who doesn’t create his own offense. Meanwhile, Thybulle is an outright offensive liability – he offers practically nothing on that end of the floor. 

Meanwhile, Clarkson can carry this team’s offense with the second unit. Sure, they already have De’Anthony Melton to do the same, but Clarkson is an upgrade. Meanwhile, Melton is a sufficient enough floor-spacer to co-exist with Clarkson.
