Rarely does a day go by that doesn’t include some trade rumors in the NBA. Today, the newest rumors involve the New York Knicks, but they are not centered around their trade discussions with the Utah Jazz for Donovan Mitchell.

Instead, this is a Knicks player looking to get moved. According to reports, Cam Reddish has requested a trade from New York as he is seeking a larger role for the upcoming season.

Reddish turned 23 years old today and was already traded once this year. The Knicks acquired him from the Atlanta Hawks in January, along with Solomon Hill who was waived, in exchange for Kevin Knox and a first-round pick via the Charlotte Hornets, which did not convey.

Reddish was seeking a larger role when he requested a trade from the Hawks, but the Knicks were not able to accommodate that last season. RJ Barrett was entrenched as the starting small forward alongside Evan Fournier at the shooting guard spot. Quentin Grimes was emerging with the second unit as well, leaving few opportunities for Reddish before injuries occurred.

In the positionless world of the NBA, Reddish can play power forward, but minutes were even tougher to come by there. Julius Randle was locked into a big-minutes role as the starter with Obi Toppin receiving any leftover minutes.

Seeking a new opportunity, there are a few teams that Reddish could find more consistent minutes on. One NBA executive that spoke to NBA Analysis Network believes the Indiana Pacers would be an ideal landing spot for the No. 10 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.

“The Pacers had interest in trading for Reddish in the past. It’s not easy to find wings, and they could use another. Haliburton is a pass-first guy and could use scorers on the wing. Reddish would have some opportunity there. Mathurin is on the shorter side for a wing, while Reddish is a legit 6-8. That’s something to consider, too.”

Indiana is in the midst of a rebuild, which likely fits the mold as to the kind of team Reddish should hope to land with. Reddish could be the third option on the wing, along with Chris Duarte and the aforementioned Bennedict Mathurin on the wing. Jalen Smith has earned the starting power forward spot, but minutes behind him could also be available.

If Indiana can move some of their other veterans, such as Buddy Hield, Indiana becomes that much more attractive of a landing spot for Reddish. That would open up even more minutes on the wing as the Pacers are looking to figure out their long-term core going forward.
