Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal

We almost started typing a justification of a hypothetical Mitchell deal here. Chalk it up to muscle memory.

Of course, the justification for landing SGA isn’t much different. The Knicks may have missed on the first star they targeted this summer, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be in the market for a star.

Frankly, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander may be the better target anyway. No disrespect is intended to Mitchell here – he’s a tremendous scorer. Still, Gilgeous-Alexander’s elite positional size makes him better equipped to withstand the rigors of playing defense in the NBA playoffs.

Moreover, SGA is three years younger than Mitchell. Bringing him in will make the Knicks a more attractive destination – as Mitchell would have as well.
