Why The Los Angeles Lakers Do The Deal 

Many will argue that Davis is not the star player the Lakers should be moving. Russell Westbrook, they’ll say, should be the one finding a new home. 

That may be the case. On the other hand, the Lakers won’t be able to find a taker for Westbrook unless they’re willing to attach draft capital to his contract. On the other hand, they’re acquiring value and actually adding a first-rounder with this package. 

They’re also adding players that complement Westbrook. Granted, there is some positional overlap with Ball, but this is the positionless NBA. Ball can comfortably operate as a wing in three-guard lineups featuring Westbrook and Patrick Beverley. 

Meanwhile, Patrick Williams has had his own health troubles, but if he can overcome them, he’ll instantly become the best 3-and-D wing on this roster. Finally, the Lakers have been missing Caruso’s brand of energetic basketball since they moved him.
