Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal 

Unlike the Hawks, these Nets don’t have to think too much about roster construction. Kevin Durant makes life easy in that regard. 

Moreover, figuring out how to incorporate Simmons as an offensive piece gets pretty complicated for this group. In all likelihood, they’d prefer Kyrie Irving to be the primary ball-handler, and Durant will need ample on-ball reps himself. What’s Simmons’ role? 

It’s easy enough to say the same thing we said about him in Atlanta – make him the roll man. The issue is, the Nets also don’t have an ideal stretch big to facilitate that role for Simmons. Moreover, unlike the Hawks, they don’t have time to wait for one. 

After all, Durant is 33. His time in the NBA is running out. This deal gives the Nets some needed depth. They land two clearcut starts in Capela and Collins and simplify their offense.
