The NBA is a rapidly evolving place. The expectations associated with different types of players change with every passing year.
For example, take the point guard position. In former years, point guards were expected to set up the offense, call a play and make the correct pass. After that, their work was typically done.
In 2022, that’s no longer the case. Plenty of point guards double as their team’s primary scorer. They still set up the offense – only now, they often set it up for themselves.
With that said, Ben Simmons is a different type of point guard altogether. He’s not exactly a traditional one: his 6’10 size precludes him from being given that title.

At the same time, he’s not the archetypal modern floor general either. His complete lack of a jump shot means that he can’t generate his own offense at will like some of the league’s best point guards.
