Why The Phoenix Suns Do The Deal
Some will argue that this deal doesn’t work for the Suns because of Ayton’s presence. The twin towers model is dead, they’ll say.
They must have tuned out the 2019-20 NBA Finals.
After all, Anthony Davis played alongside two traditional bigs in Dwight Howard and JaVale McGee that year. In case you missed it, his Los Angeles Lakers won an NBA championship. Perhaps twin towers can co-exist after all?
Of course, a lot has changed since then. Davis has lost a substantial portion of the last two seasons to injury – it’s hard to say for sure that he’ll ever return to his 2019-20 form.
Still, at 29, he has every opportunity to. If he does, the Suns would be landing by far the best player in this deal – in fact, they’d probably be landing the most impactful player on their team.
