Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal

Some Knicks fans will inevitably protest this deal. Mitchell is good: no unbiased observer would deny that. Is he this good? 

After all, Mitchell is not likely the type of player who single-handedly turns your team into a contender. He’s hovering around the 15 best players in the NBA, but there’s really only a small handful of players who can have that impact on your organization. 

On the other hand, the Knicks reside in New York. It should not have been as difficult for them to build a contender as it has been recently. All they need to do is reach consistent respectability, and they should attract stars. 

Surely, Mitchell can get them to that level. Moreover, he’d have a solid supporting cast waiting for him in Barrett, Julius Randle, Mitchell Robinson and others.
