Ranking Lakers’ Top Russell Westbrook Trade Options

Russell Westbrook, Los Angeles Lakers, NBA

The most discussed topic of discussion when it comes to the Los Angeles Lakers still centers around former NBA MVP Russell Westbrook. What will the team do with their embattled point guard as we get closer and closer to training camp beginning?

It sounds unlikely that the Lakers are going to send Westbrook home, a la John Wall and the Houston Rockets last season. If that is the case, they could still try incorporating him into their game plan for the 2022-23 season.

With a new coaching staff in place led by Darvin Ham, things will look different for the purple and gold. Alas, it is anyone’s guess how much different things will be for Westbrook. The coaching staff can urge him to make some adjustments to how he plays, but at the end of the day, he has to be willing to buy in.

If Westbrook isn’t willing to play the role that Ham envisions for him, something has to change. With Patrick Beverley now in the fold, Los Angeles has another starting option at point guard.

At this point, making a trade centered around him is likely the best outcome for both sides. Most trade rumors involving Westbrook result in him being bought out, which will give him a chance to select the next team he plays for.
