Why The Washington Wizards Do The Deal
Granted, there’s a massive risk factor for the Wizards here as well: It’s called Kyrie Irving. Kyrie Irving is a massive risk factor all to himself.
Still, the payout could be enormous. Following this trade, the Wizards would arguably have the best backcourt in the NBA. It would certainly be a change for a team that’s lacked guard depth behind Bradley Beal for years.
Opposing defenses would have quite the dilemma on their hands in choosing which of these two outstanding guards to pay more attention to.
Moreover, they’d still have a deep platoon of wings to compliment them. Kyle Kuzma has emerged as a solid two-way wing. Deni Avdija’s offensive game is still a work-in-progress, but he’s already a high-end defensive player.

If Rui Hachimura takes a step forward, the Wizards could be more competitive than they’ve been in a long time following this deal.
If it brings them closer to first than last, they’ll be happy to have made it.
