Many fans are assuming the Los Angeles Lakers will deal Russell Westbrook this summer. That assumption may be valid. Of course, they’ll have to attach draft picks if they’re hoping to get any value for him.
This trade works whether they do so or not.
Suppose the Lakers made this trade and then flipped Westbrook along with a pair of first-rounders for Myles Turner and Buddy Hield.
Yes, LeBron James would be working without a co-star. On the other hand, he’d be operating with by far the deepest team he’s ever played on. It would be quite the change from one of the most top-heavy teams in the NBA last year.
Given how disappointing they were, it could be a welcomed one. On the other hand, if the Lakers can’t swing a win-now trade for Westbrook and picks, this deal could still work.
