Boston Celtics Receive: F/C John Collins, F De‘Andre Hunter, 2023 First-Round Pick (ATL), 2024 First-Round Pick (SAC via ATL)
Atlanta Hawks Receive: G/F Jaylen Brown
If the Atlanta Hawks were to make this deal, they’d have officially had the NBA’s busiest summer.
After all, the Hawks already traded three first-round picks to the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for Dejounte Murray. It was a bold move that signaled an intention to improve in the short term. Whether it was the right one is a matter of debate.
Presumably, the Hawks were drawn to Murray for his elite point-of-attack defense. That projects as particularly valuable alongside franchise point guard Trae Young, one of the weakest defensive guards in the NBA. With that said, the offensive fit is a little tougher to imagine.
Young, of course, is one of the best on-ball playmakers in the world. For that reason, the Hawks have no choice but to live with their defensive limitations.

Unfortunately, Murray, though an otherwise well-rounded player, is a subpar shooter. It’s difficult to imagine what value he’ll offer the Hawks during the many possessions where Trae Young is running the show.
Jaylen Brown could potentially help with that dynamic. Does he help enough to merit the cost the Hawks are paying here?
