Los Angeles Lakers Receive: G/F Tim Hardaway Jr., F/C Davis Bertans, F/C Dwight Powell
Dallas Mavericks Receive: G Russell Westbrook, 2027 1st Round Pick
Another player that may be in the middle of the cycle is Russell Westbrook. The Big 3 experiment failed with the Lakers.
Westbrook clearly wasn’t a great fit alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis, two ball-needy stars who also do their best work in the paint. The triumvirate of players, none of which are necessarily great deep shooters, got into each other’s way more often than they helped each other succeed.
While it’s clear that the Lakers need to move on from Westbrook, a universally accepted fact including by Westbrook himself, it’ll be difficult to find a willing partner for the former MVP in a deal.
He’s a notoriously stubborn player who dominates the ball and costs $47 million for next season. Los Angeles has made it abundantly clear that they’re unwilling to attach additional assets in order to get off of Westbrook.
If they’re willing to budge a little bit, they may be able to find some sort of deal by including just one of their two available future first-round picks.
