Why The Dallas Mavericks Do The Deal
The Dallas Mavericks learned in this past postseason that they’re best off having another consistent scorer alongside Luka Doncic to keep opposing defenses from loading up on the Slovenian savant.
Jalen Brunson was able to consistently get into the paint and finish at the rim, find an open teammate, or create a good look for himself within the midrange.
Tobias Harris is essentially a taller, more expensive, and more proven Jalen Brunson. Neither is an exceptional athlete but both can use their savvy and strength to get into their spots.
Once there, both have the touch and offensive repertoire to finish plays in a variety of manners. Tobi will be a much better defender in Dallas than Brunson was in his young career, and he’s certainly less redundant with Spencer Dinwiddie.

In this deal, the Mavericks turn two bad contracts into one and acquire a much better fit alongside Luka Doncic. Dallas proved last year that they can succeed without Tim Hardaway Jr., but they need to find a way to replace Brunson’s secondary scoring and creation. Tobias Harris might be the perfect option to do that.
