The Utah Jazz are going to be busy taking calls from teams that are inquiring about trading for NBA All-Star Donovan Mitchell. With Kevin Durant officially off the table, as he and the Brooklyn Nets agreed to continue their partnership, all attention will now be turned to Mitchell and the Jazz.

Utah has a very high asking price for him as they want to acquire at the very least what they did from the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Rudy Gobert blockbuster. The more teams that are involved the better for the Jazz, as they will then bid against each other.

While there are still numerous teams involved, one of them has bowed out of the race. According to Ian Begley, the Cleveland Cavaliers have removed themselves from trade talks centered around Mitchell. This comes only a few days after it was reported by SNY’s Ian Begley that the Cavaliers have touched base with the Jazz, but not much must have come from that talk.

As Begley notes, this is great news for the New York Knicks. The Cavaliers very well could have learned where the price was and bowed out knowing that they either could not match what was being offered or had no interest in going that high.

The Knicks have up to eight first-round picks and multiple young players in RJ Barrett, Obi Toppin, Quentin Grimes, Immanuel Quickley, Cam Reddish and Deuce McBride that could be included in the deal. Thus far, they have been unwilling to go all in knowing that other teams don’t have as much to offer as they do.

For the Cavaliers, they are likely going to allow things to grow and develop organically. They are a team on the rise with two All-Stars already entrenched in the lineup with Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen. The sky’s the limit for Evan Mobley as well, who looks like a future All-Star himself.

Keeping Collin Sexton, who has some similarities as an explosive, albeit undersized scoring guard, would be a lot cheaper for Cleveland than acquiring Mitchell as well.
